Install Your Horseman’s Gravity Latch

Check Your Gate Prior to Install

The Horseman’s Gravity Latch is designed for round pipe gates. Before installing, confirm that:

- Your gate is level and swings freely
- The gap between the end of the gate and the latch post is 1 inch or less
- There is at least 10 inches of ground clearance
- The latch can be positioned exactly 21 inches inward from the end of the gate

The HGL attaches to your gate using three stainless steel fasteners, without welding, drilling, or permanently modifying the gate.

A 1 × 5-inch receiving slot must be created in the latch post.

Where Does the Receiving Slot Go?

Your gate’s position relative to the latch post determines whether the receiving slot is created in the front or side of the post. The HGL mounts to the gate the same way in either setup.

Side of Post

For gates that close beside the latch post, the receiving slot is created in the post’s side.

Front of Post

For gates that close in front of the latch post, the receiving slot is created in the post’s front face.
